Community Focus

The primary focus of AC-TKO is to build community-based programs which help people of all ages grow - in body, mind and spirit - through the study of traditional Shotokan karate.
AC-TKO programs are conducted from a number of locations throughout the city of Albany. The largest center is the American Institute of Japanese Karate (AIJK), located at the Hilton Arts Center in Westgate Plaza on North Russell Road in Albany.

The after-school enrichment program at the Albany School for the Humanities (ASH), is the largest of its kind in the United States. With close to 100 young participants, students are taught important character building skills which help them to excel in academics and in life.

The Albany Recreation Department sponsors AC-TKO karate programs at several neighborhood centers throughout the city. The goal is to provide local children from all backgrounds the opportunity to study the karate art. AC-TKO karate classes are held at the following centers with the generous support of the City of Albany:
  • Arbor Hill Community Center
  • Lincoln Park Community Center
  • Saint Vincent de Paul Community Center
